Paolo Benanti
Paolo Benanti (1973) a Third Order Regular TOR Franciscan, has been engaged as a lecturer at the Pontifical Gregorian University since 2008. In addition to institutional courses in bioethics, he works on neuroethics, technology ethics, artificial intelligence, and the posthuman. As of 2015, it seeks to apply and develop an ethical framework for artificial intelligences by developing the concepts of algor-ethics and algo-cracy.
In 2017 he was included in the Artificial Intelligence Task Force to assist the Digital Italy Agency in preparing an initial summary report to identify possible recommendations that the Italian government, and public administration in general, can adopt in the coming years to make the most of the tools and opportunities made available by the evolution of artificial intelligence.
In 2018, he was selected by the Ministry of Economic Development as a member of the group of thirty experts who at the national level drafted the recent national strategy on artificial intelligence and the national strategy on shared ledger and blockchain-based technologies.
In 2023 he was appointed chairman of the AI Information Commission established by the Prime Minister’s Office. Father Benanti is also the only Italian member of the United Nations Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
